Treatment Center - Training Center - Tomatis Museum
Sint Truiden is a small town, halfway between Brussels and Aachen. It is the home town of Atlantis, one of the largest Tomatis Center in the world, and The Mozart Brain Lab, a research and training center for future Tomatis therapists. They are both directed by Jozef Vervoort, a long time student and confidant of Dr. Tomatis. Both Atlantis and The Mozart Brain Lab practice Audio-Psycho-Phonology, a scientific discipline created by Dr. Tomatis. It is based on the discovery that "The function of the ear is not only limited to hearing and to the maintenance of equilibrium, but it also plays an important role in many other respects". For example, a physical injury or psychological shock can "traumatize" the ear, resulting in a change in the Listening Profile, which in turn can lead to a host of problems, both in children and adults. The purpose of Audio-Psycho-Phonology is to remedy these problems. In St. Truiden you will also find a Tomatis museum, housing Tomatis memorabilia and all the documentation which Dr. Tomatis left behind. It has been dedicated to work of Dr. Tomatis and his wife Léna. Training and Continued Education of the highest Quality. In 1998, after he retired, Tomatis asked Jozef Vervoort to continue the training and research, based on an ethical code of conduct and well established protocols. To fulfill his wish, this Belgium educator, who had been a Tomatis therapist for already 30 years, started a new company, The Mozart-Brain-Lab (MBL). The purpose of the MBL is twofold. First, the MBL trains future Tomatis therapists. Secondly, it conducts research to further develop the Tomatis Method. The training for future Tomatis therapists is comprehensive and of the highest quality. It is given by experts in their respective fields, many of whom have been students of Dr. Tomatis and have been practicing the Method for many years. The training is provided in the following languages: English, French, German and Dutch. For schedules, please check the MBL website (www.mozart-brain-lab.de). The training is directed to medical doctors, psychologists, speech therapists and teachers. The complete training course consists of 4 weeks training at the Mozart Brain Lab, and an internship of up to 6 weeks at an accredited Tomatis Center. The internship can be done in parallel to the training. In addition, each student is required to undergo the Tomatis Treatment on a personal basis. At the end of the training, successful students will receive a diploma giving them the right to open a Tomatis Center. Continued education is provided twice a year; this is a must, in order to maintain the quality and master the newest techniques.
