Angela Sallerson, OTR/L RCTC is the owner of OTRNY.  She is an Occupational Therapist who has been in practice for over 30 years.  She is SIPT Certified, a Senior Ready Associate and has specialized in treating persons with Sensory Integration/Sensory Processing Difficulties for more than 30 years.  Angela has spent her entire practice receiving training in the area of Sensory Processing and Sensory Integration and the impact these difficulties have on motor skill development, eating, chewing and swallowing, talking and social emotional development.

Angela discovered listening therapy through a program called Listening with the Whole Body by Sheila Frick, OTR and then went on to be trained to do Tomatis® Method by Valerie Dejean, OTR at the Spectrum Center in Bethesda, MD.

Since Angela specializes in working with Autistic people and their sensory issues, she has been treating these children at her center since May of 2004.  Other children that have come for Tomatis® Method have had a variety of issues such as Down Syndrome, CP, Learning Disabilities, Attachment Disorder and many other diagnosis with which Tomatis® Method has helped.

Any age person can be treated at OTRNY.  We have Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Special Educators and other staff members that are available to work with the children and parents depending upon the child’s difficulties.

Angela is also trained in Interactive Metronome® which can be used after the Tomatis®  Method has been completed (the first 3 loops) as an additional assistance for those who have timing and sequencing difficulties.

Angela is beginning to promote wellness for the parents of children with handicapping conditions in order to help them see how Tomatis® Method can be beneficial to them as well as to their children.  It helps to calm and organize and improve relationships that may be affected by the child’s condition.  She firmly believes that The Tomatis® Method is the only program that “seems to fill in the mortar between the bricks” so that developmental sequences can occur in those who are having difficulty with developmental disabilities.  It also helps adults who are struggling with their emotions, family issues and their own stumbling blocks, to get a better view of life and be able to make more grounded life decisions.   Angela states “it helped me to be more grounded, listen better, be more organized and learn to stop and smell the roses, it probably saved my life”.  It also helped Angela with public speaking and working with disturbed adults and children because of the calming effect it had on her.  She continues with her own therapy.

Angela has also learned that Tomatis® Method can help adults who have sustained strokes and brain damage to begin to heal and regain some of their previous skills.
